### Understanding alerts and ticket availability

Alerts are based on a **real-time availability system**: as soon as a ticket is listed for sale, **all users who have activated an alert for that event receive a notification at the same time**.

For some highly requested events, **thousands of people may try to buy the same ticket at the same time**. It can therefore be sold **within seconds**, sometimes before you have even had time to open the listing.

### What you need to know

* An alert **does not guarantee** that you will have time to buy the ticket. It **notifies you as soon as it becomes available**.
* It is not a reservation or privileged access: **the sale remains open to everyone**, on a first-come, first-served basis.
* This can be frustrating for very high-demand events, but it remains **the only way to be informed in real time** when an opportunity becomes available.
